At one point in time, Ricky Miezan was contemplating college lacrosse, ranked the No. 1 recruit in the country, but he decided to value football first and he ended up choosing Stanford.

The Cardinal got a steal in Miezan who committed to the 2018 class and redshirted in his first season and now looks to be a starter at inside linebacker. That’s not too shabby coming from a slightly-overlooked three-star linebacker from Virginia.

Mieza showed his skillset this spring, especially during the scrimmage, with great reads from the linebacker position and he looks like a pure athlete out there — something he may have brought in from his days playing lacrosse at a high level.

Choosing football has paid off, though, as he helped lead the defense over the offense in the spring game and he’s in line to get No. 1 snaps at inside linebacker in the fall as a redshirt freshman.

The outlook on defense is positive, especially with an underrated linebacker like Miezan stepping up to the plate.
