Why haven’t we heard more from Curtis Robinson in his first three seasons with Stanford after coming in as a five-star linebacker recruit? He was the No. 30 player in the 2016 class, per 247Sports, but has yet to truly break out and play at an elite level for the Cardinal.
More from Stanford Cardinal
- The latest ACC expansion plan makes no sense
- Top 5 college football recruiting commitments from the past week (July 3-9)
- Stanford football trending for 4-star OT over Oregon, USC, Utah
- 3 teams with crazy college football recruiting so far in June
- Can Stanford Football land elite 2024 QB Elijah Brown?
That could all change after a solid spring where he earned the praise of David Shaw and there’s a good chance he could be an upperclassman breakout candidate.
Robinson had 23 total tackles in the 2017 season before playing just 14 snaps and redshirting in 2018. He enters the 2019 season as a redshirt junior with high expectations and he lived up to the hype thing spring after moving from the outside to inside linebacker.
The Cardinal are aiming to get that defense back to playing at a high level like it had been known for over the years under Shaw, but coming off a season in which they ranked 78th in total yards allowed, they need some answers. Robinson could be that guy who continues his upward trend in 2019 and stars in the middle of the defense.
