KJ Costello has the potential to be one of the Pac-12’s best quarterbacks, and that was never more evident than during the 2018 season when he passed for 3,540 yards and 29 touchdowns with 11 picks and a 65 percent completion rate. He showed that he should have been the starter over Keller Chryst as a freshman and broke out as a sophomore.

The junior quarterback is poised to reach the 4,000-yard mark after nearly doing so a season ago and he might put himself in the discussion as an early-round NFL draft pick.

Stanford has to feel lucky knowing that Costello is coming back with the experience he has and it gives the Cardinal one of the best situations heading into the 2019 season. He has the arm strength and impressive accuracy and his targets are not few and far between.

Though Bryce Love may be gone from his backfield, taking away an option in the run game behind him, he shouldn’t feel too much pressure with Cameron Scarlett and Trevor Speights back.

Costello had a strong spring, asserted his dominance under center and showcased leadership skills and it looks like he might have the most to gain of any quarterback in the Pac-12 this season.
