While they were inconsistent throughout the 2018 season, he felt like they finished strong and set themselves up for a solid 2019. He says when he talks about how proud he is of his team he is not just talking about on the field but he’s proud of what they have done in the offseason program, in the classroom and in the community.

Rhule was asked about how to avoid giving up big plays that plagued Baylor defense last year and he commented that in order to be the type of defense he wants they have to do a better job of taking ball away and that there were a lot of guys who were on the field before they were ready and now they’re ready. He was also asked about how his roster is looking since taking over in 2017 when depth was a mess and he said that a lot of guys had to play early and they are now juniors or sophomores and now have valuable game experience.

Charlie Brewer was mentioned and Rhule was asked what he expects from him in 2019. He said that by the end of the 2018 season he felt like Brewer had settled into playing quarterback and that he did not feel he had to do everything himself. He went on to say that once the light bulb went on for Charlie that he was a really good quarterback and when Baylor was able to run ball and protect him, he was an excellent quarterback.
