3. Kellen Mond outplays Trevor Lawrence

Some people would say this doesn’t make any sense as Trevor Lawrence is one of the best quarterbacks in the nation right now. That being said though, he didn’t impress me all that much against Georgia Tech. He wasn’t on his game, finishing 13-for-23 with 168 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

Will he have two disappointing performances in a row? Maybe not, but the Aggie secondary did come up with four picks in the win against Texas State, so that is something to watch for sure.

Kellen Mond had one interception against Texas State on a ball thrown simply too low in the end zone. He looked pretty good despite a less than stellar performance by his offensive line. It looked to me like he had grown quite a bit from the first year official starter under a new head coach we saw a season ago. He finished 19-for-27 with 194 yards, three passing touchdowns, a rushing touchdown and an interception.

Yes, it was against Texas State, but it was still an impressive performance.

A season ago, Mond threw for 430 yards against the Clemson Tigers and he holds the keys to do just that again with a young Clemson defensive front and a talented group of Aggie receivers. Look for him to be the key to this game. If he can pull this off again, which I think he can, this game could get interesting in a hurry.
