1. Iowa’s backfield will be a problem for defenses this year

One of the most underrated backfields in the Big Ten resides in Iowa City as the Hawkeyes have a three-headed monster in the backfield.

Although it didn’t put up monster numbers against Rutgers in Week 2, it was obvious that three running backs can do damage against most defenses in the conference. If the trio keeps up its solid play, the Hawkeyes are going to be a problem.

Toren Young led the way with nine carries for 59 yards and he was matched by Mekhi Sargent who also had 59 yards but on four more carries. Freshman Tyler Goodson showed some speed and flash with his 10 carries, racking up 53 yards. Each back had a long of over 10 yards and looked to showcase different strengths.

Iowa can go three deep in the backfield and that’s the perfect complement to Nate Stanley and the passing game which showed it can get the job done with a 236-yard performance against Rutgers.
