Florida football picked up a huge come-from-behind win over Kentucky to kick off SEC play. Let’s completely overreact to the Gators’ win.

Losing Feleipe Franks overshadowed what was an incredible come-from-behind win by Florida over Kentucky on Saturday evening.

Fans were quick to dub the game “over” when Franks went down, but backup quarterback Kyle Trask came in and led the Gators to 19 straight points and a huge road win.

So let’s completely overreact to the Gators’ victory.

3. Secondary not as good as we thought

This seems to be a common overreaction, especially after the Gators faced backup quarterback Sawyer Smith in his first-ever start for the Wildcats and he managed to throw for 267 yards and two touchdowns. He completed 23-of-35 passes and was sharp for most of the game.

But he did have three interceptions.

Still, people are left wondering, is this secondary as dominant with CJ Henderson and Co. as we thought it would be? The answer isn’t that simple.

Yes, Florida has one of the most talented defensive backfields in the country, but a road SEC game is tough on any unit. Smith couldn’t find anything open deep down the field as his longest completion was just 26 yards. This secondary doesn’t get burned, and it showed.

Plus, three interceptions were critical to the comeback effort and win over the Wildcats. This secondary is good, but it’s going to give up some yards when a quarterback attempts 35 passes. Give it time to regroup.

Maybe Smith is also a better quarterback than we thought.
