Florida football had no problem dismantling Towson on Saturday afternoon in Gainesville. What did we learn from this tune-up game?

A tune-up game before a huge Week 6 matchup against Auburn was needed for the Florida Gators, especially with a backup quarterback now leading the way, and it went just as expected.

Florida came away with a 38-0 win as the defense dominated and the offense cleaned some things up with Kyle Trask playing nearly flawless football.

What did we learn from the Gators’ easy win over Towson?

3. Run game not getting enough reps

I get it, it was just Towson, but why is the run game heading into the fourth quarter with just 20 reps? There’s enough talent in the backfield to put up 200-plus rushing yards on a regular basis, but the Gators steered away from a run-heavy offense against Towson, which was head-scratching.

Dameon Pierce is a home run threat and can take it to the house any time he touches the ball. That explosiveness was on display Saturday as he rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown on just six carries. Lamical Perine was held in check yet again which raises some questions, but he only had a handful of carries as well.

If Florida wants to gain momentum on the ground moving deeper into SEC play, the Gators must rely more on the run game.
