1. Baylor goes 3-1
The upcoming schedule doesn’t do the Bears any favors. Baylor opens the month with Kansas State on the road which could be the most daunting task. I think the Bears have just enough firepower to pull off an “upset” in Manhattan to improve to 5-0 and maybe approach the AP Top 25.
Next up will be Texas Tech on Oct. 12 in Waco. The Red Raiders haven’t fared all that well in Matt Wells’ first season, but they can be a problem in any given week. I expect this game to be closer than expected, but the Bears will pull off a victory here.
That means Baylor will be 6-0 and already bowl eligible heading into a Top 25 matchup in Stillwater with Oklahoma State. The Cowboys will be playing their best football of the season as the three-headed monster of Spencer Sanders, Tylan Wallace and Chuba Hubbard will be too much for the Bears’ defense.
Lastly, the Bears host West Virginia to close out the month and while I believe Neal Brown will do big things with that program, the Mountaineers are still a ways from being contenders. This will be a win for Matt Rhule and the Bears.
Baylor will finish the month with a 3-1 record and head into November 7-1 overall and potentially even a spot in the AP Top 25.
