Iowa State Football: 3 bold predictions for October 2019
1. Iowa State goes 4-0, jumps back into Big 12 race
With a new No. 1 running back emerging and a quarterback who leads the Big 12 in passing, I think it only makes sense that the Cyclones exceed expectations and go 4-0 in October.
The schedule is favorable, to an extent, with its toughest opponents coming to Ames in TCU and Oklahoma State while two winnable road games (Texas Tech and West Virginia) are on the docket. This team can take care of business at home and hit the road to tackle a struggling Texas Tech team as well as a West Virginia squad still in rebuild mode.
I believe Iowa State is a better team than three of the aforementioned October opponents while Oklahoma State might hold the upper-hand, but home-field advantage will play in the Cyclones’ favor.
Let’s face it, a 2-2 start to the season wasn’t expected nor was an overtime win over Northern Iowa, but the Cyclones just needed to be poked a little bit before waking up, and I think Baylor did that in Week 5 with a 23-21 win. They led Iowa State 20-0 in the fourth quarter before Brock Purdy engineered three touchdown drives to take a lead before eventually losing on a field goal.
This team has woken from its slumber and the rest of the Big 12 will be on notice moving forward. Iowa State will go 4-0 with an upset win over Oklahoma State to improve to 6-2 and 4-1 in the Big 12, right in the middle of the title race.
