Florida Football: 3 takeaways from huge SEC win over Auburn

2. Kyle Trask stood tall despite injury scare
The air went out of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in the second quarter when Kyle Trask went down with what Dan Mullen said was a medial collateral ligament injury when talking to the CBS sideline reporter at halftime. The scare threatened to derail Florida’s bid to topple Auburn on Saturday afternoon. But Trask returned in the second half with a brace on his knee, and the Gators starter proved critical in the winning effort.
Trask finished the day 19-of-31 for 234 yards and two touchdowns, ably guiding the Gators downfield despite his immobility. The quarterback has been huge for Florida since taking over the starting role for an injured Feleipe Franks, and losing Trask could have been costly for a team hoping to break into the national conversation for a top-four position.
With Emory Jones waiting in the wings as well, Florida might be capable of weathering another injury at the quarterback position. But Trask has the starting position over Jones for a reason, and losing his ability on the field would have been a real threat to Gator goals heading into the back half of the regular season. Seeing him finish the game was a relief for a crowd that was left with a déjà vu moment.
