Florida Football: 3 takeaways from tough loss at LSU in Week 7
1. Florida is still a playoff contender
One might look at the final score of this game and just assume that Florida was out-classed by the LSU Tigers, but the game was much closer than the scoreboard indicated.
Florida actually held a 28-21 lead early in the third quarter before LSU struck right back and tied it up. Joe Burrow was just too much for the Gators, as was the Tiger run game as it racked up over 200 yards on the ground with just 24 carries. The LSU offense continues to prove that it’s not just fluke-ing its way to a hot start, but it is a legit threat to put up points.
The Gators were keeping pace with LSU on the road for the better part of four quarters and a late touchdown in the fourth to give the Tigers a two-score lead was the nail in the coffin. Up until that point, it was a hotly-contested battle.
Dan Mullen has to feel good about his team’s ability to hang with just about anyone but he knows that Kyle Trask and his offense can figure out how to finish drives — he was an interception in the end zone away from actually taking this one down to the wire.
Don’t fret, Gator fans, this is still a playoff-contending team.
