Florida football went on the road with the hopes of staying undefeated against LSU, but the Tigers’ offense was too much for the Gators.

Florida football had a disappointing performance on the road in Death Valley, as they fell to the LSU Tigers 42-28.

Expectations for the Gators were sky-high for this matchup after a great Gator performance in beating Auburn the week before. Coming into the game, Florida had one of the best defenses in the country, ranking in the top ten in a lot of categories, and placing at the top in takeaways and scoring defense.

But the game got off to a slow start on defense, and didn’t get better. Joe Burrow was clinical in this one, picking apart the Gators defense to only three incompletions, and three touchdowns. To make matters worse, the rushing defense wasn’t much better, giving up 218 yards on the ground. It was a bad performance on all fronts.

Florida was in the game throughout, as the Gators offense, led by Kyle Trask, kept them in the game. But on a day where the Tigers played perfectly, one untimely interception was all the difference. Florida had a really good drive down 35-28 with 7:26 to go, and that was when Trask threw an interception to Derek Stingley, and the Tigers scored once again to make it a two possession game and put the game to bed.

It was a solid performance, but it was a game where the Gators saw what it took to be in national contention. LSU simply didn’t make mistakes, and were playing at a really high level all night. Florida nearly matched them stride for stride, but couldn’t convert when it mattered most. Here is how the Gators graded out by position.
