2. Brock Purdy is elite

There’s no doubt about this anymore: Brock Purdy is an elite quarterback.

We’ve danced around this notion for too long and after another strong performance against one of the best teams in the Big 12, it has to be planted in everyone’s minds. Purdy is one of the top-three quarterbacks in the conference which is impressive given the fact that there are guys like Jalen Hurts, Charlie Brewer and Sam Ehlinger in play.

Purdy won the quarterback duel with Ehlinger on Saturday, countering every big play the Texas quarterback made. He finished the day with 354 yards and two touchdowns on 30-of-48 completions while Ehlinger had 273 yards and three scores on 22-of-40 completions.

If people didn’t believe in Purdy before Saturday, they surely do now. He also engineered the game-winning drive — thanks to a few Texas penalties — which led to the last-second field goal by the Cyclones.

Imagine if Purdy was able to win some of these close games. We might be talking about Iowa State as a playoff threat.
