Sun Belt Championship 2019: 3 takeaways from App State’s win over Louisiana
By Dante Pryor
The Appalachian State Mountaineers have won their fourth consecutive and second outright Sun Belt Championship. Here’s what we learned.
What the Appalachian State Mountaineers have done since their transition from the FCS (D-I AA) to FBS (D-I A) has been nothing short of amazing. When they were eligible for the postseason in FBS, they won the Sun Belt. In fact, this is their fourth consecutive Sun Belt title.
This season, the Mountaineers have dominated most of the competition. This game was no different. The Mountaineers jumped out to a big lead, and held on at the end for a 45-38 victory.
This is not to diminish what Billy Napier and the Louisiana football program has done. The Ragin’ Cajuns won 10 games for the first time in school history, and this is the second year they’ve played for a conference title. Napier and the Cajuns certainly have nothing to hang their heads about. Their success this season has put Napier on the radar of many Power Five schools.
However, the Mountaineers were victorious on their way to another conference title and a possible New Year’s Six Bowl game.
Here are three takeaways from Saturday’s Sun Belt Championship Game.
