KJ Costello didn’t exactly have the season he was expecting with Stanford football and he has decided to transfer. Where could he end up?
When Stanford quarterback K.J. Costello announced he would be transferring away from the Cardinal, it came to a shock to many people. Graduating from Stanford in three years, he will be eligible next season no matter where he goes.
A three-year starter for the Cardinal, his experience will be valuable to many teams. He will have plenty of suitors, as he will more than likely be the hottest name in the transfer portal this offseason.
In 2018, he set a few school records, throwing for more than 3,500 yards. That is better than anything Andrew Luck did in his three years at Stanford and was looking to go into 2019 to repeat what he did. The goal was to take Stanford back to the top of the Pac-12 and possibly a New Year’s Six bowl. That did not happen, as Costello has suffered injuries all year.
Only playing in five games this season, his final stats were 1,028 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 61 percent his passes.
Seen as a future NFL prospect, Costello will have some big-time schools knocking at his door. In the past couple of years, we have seen what a transfer quarterback can do to a program. Oklahoma has thrived off them the past four years, having two Heisman winners and a Heisman runner up. LSU became a national championship contender after a couple of seasons with Joe Burrow. Ohio State instantly became the best team in the country once Justin Fields played a snap with the Buckeyes.
The matter of the fact is, a transfer quarterback can change the entire direction of your season. Costello would be no different, as he could turn a team into a national title contender without ever playing a snap.
Here are three places Costello would fit.
