I know what you’re already thinking: “Why the heck would Alabama start a true freshman quarterback when Mac Jones proved himself in 2019 when Tua went down?”

While this is true and he will likely be the starting quarterback for the season opener followed by Tua’s brother Taulia Tagovailoa, Bryce Young will undoubtedly have an immediate impact on the quarterback battle. He may not start right away or even play major snaps early on, but there’s a good chance his talent level will force Jones and Taulia to improve tenfold.

This isn’t a knock on Mac or Taulia, but it just means that if they’re not careful, the No. 1 quarterback in the 2020 class could come in and swipe their jobs.

What’s even more intriguing about Young is the fact that he’s already enrolled and he’ll have the playbook memorized by the end of spring and before fall camp. This is a major victory for a young quarterback as that’s usually the hardest part about their freshman year.

Young is the highest-ranked signee in Alabama’s 2020 class, listed as the No. 2 player in the nation, and the five-star from California has extreme athleticism. While he’s only 5-11 and 183 pounds, he’s an elite-level athlete.

Could Young be the guy who replaces Tua under center and leads Alabama back to the national title game? It’s possible.
