Alfred Collins was one of those National Signing Day victories that Texas seems to have every year. The four-star from Bastrop, Texas, was being courted by some of the nation’s top teams including the likes of Alabama, Oklahoma, Baylor and Texas A&M, among others.

Standing 6-foot-5, 284 pounds, Collins has plenty of size to compete at the next level and should fit right in on that Texas defensive line. The Longhorns are losing Malcolm Roach from one of the defensive end spots and that opens a door ever so slightly for Collins to come in and compete for snaps right away. I’m not saying he’ll start, but he’s good enough to play from day one.

Collins is ranked the No. 62 overall prospect and second-best strong-side defensive end in the 2020 class as well as the No. 8 recruit from the state of Texas, according to 247Sports.

It’s important for Texas to win these recruiting battles from the top talent in its loaded state and keeping Collins away from the likes of Alabama and the SEC is gigantic.
