Stanford Football: 3 signees who’ll have instant impacts in 2020
By Dante Pryor
Not only were the Cardinal mediocre against the run, but they also were not very good against the pass, giving up almost 280 passing yards per game. One could argue it was because of the pass rush’s inability to get pressure outside of Casey Toohill. It’s the chicken or the egg theory of pass defense.
Either way, it’s obvious the Cardinal were looking to upgrade the defensive backfield by signing four defensive backs.
Hector is the best of the bunch. He comes from the Pacific Northwest as the top-rated defensive back the Cardinal signed. He is the fifth-ranked player from the state of Washington and the 15th best defensive back prospect in the country, per 247Sports.
What jumps out when you watch Hector on tape is his nose for the football. He has great instincts for someone that is getting ready for his senior prom. He is a smooth athlete, also something rare for a defensive back so young. He already has good hips and fluidity with his back-pedal. He also has a good understanding of both zone and man concepts in coverage and is adept at both.
Look for Hector to see plenty of snaps on the field this fall.
