NFL Draft 2020: Jets massively upgrade offensive line with Mekhi Becton
By Phil Poling
Louisville’s Mekhi Becton was selected by the Jets with the 11th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He’s a huge upgrade for New York.

The New York Jets believe in Sam Darnold at quarterback. They hope to see their big offseason addition from last summer, Le’Veon Bell, produce like he did in the past with Pittsburgh. With the addition of Louisville’s Mekhi Becton at the NFL Draft, both Darnold’s and Bell’s jobs just became ten times easier.
Becton started multiple games at both left and right tackle for the Cardinals during his career at Louisville, which is something that’s nearly required in today’s NFL: versatility. He didn’t start during Lamar Jackson’s Heisman Trophy season, but in 2017, Becton did protect Jackson. He isn’t the most technically-sound football player, though, but at 6-foot-7 and 364 pounds, Becton is a physically imposing force to be reckoned with. If he’s able to lock in and get the most out of his talents, the sky is the limit.
With Tom Brady gone from the AFC East, it’s time somebody else steps up and claims the division. I don’t think that’ll be the Jets in 2020, but Becton will help them become a formidable franchise.
Grade: B
Becton to the Jets is a very good need-pick, but also a great value-pick. An offense that can’t protect it’s quarterback or running back won’t be successful; Becton should help tremendously with that.
