1. Turnover margin and sack numbers

Texas A&M didn’t crack the top 100 in turnover margin in 2019. The Aggies sat at -6, losing 20 turnovers to their gained 14.

Even though the start of the season seemed promising with Roney Elam and Leon O’ Neal really getting into the turnover game, that leveled out quickly and the Aggies couldn’t for the life of them force a turnover. For the defense to be competitive in the SEC in 2020, this has to change in a hurry.

The same goes for sack numbers. The Aggies sat at No. 53 nationally with 29 total sacks on the year and most of those seemed to have come from the easier games on the schedule, meaning game-changing plays were not made via the pass rush in 2019. It doesn’t help that the team is also losing a big part of their pass rush in Justin Madubuike who is now a Baltimore Raven.

Point blank, the defense has to produce more in 2020. Many other teams in the SEC, the successful ones at least, are putting up major sack numbers and are taking the ball away at times that change games in their favor. This is something that has to be fixed come 2020 and it has to happen sooner rather than later.
