3. Manny Diaz, Miami

Year one of the Manny Diaz era in Coral Gables was a nightmare for the Hurricanes. Miami went just 6-6, lost a regular season matchup to cross-town rival Florida International, lost to group of five Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl and dealt with several off the field distractions.

Despite this, the Hurricanes kept their faith in Diaz and decided to bring him back for a second year at the helm of the once storied franchise. The Hurricanes are entering a make or break season as they look to get back into an ACC that outside of Clemson‘s dominance has been wide open.

Miami’s non conference slate features some challenges but still winnable matchups with Temple, UAB and Michigan State. The team will also play host to Florida State and 2019 division champion Pittsburgh with their lone true road challenge being a trip to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech.

Thus, Diaz will be expected to keep distractions away from the program and improve upon a mediocre six-win season in 2019. If he does not, it’s hard to see the Hurricanes sticking with him when there will likely be several of coveted options hitting the market.
