Stanford Football: Top 3 prospects for 2021 NFL Draft
Some people might be surprised to see this name here, but a lot of fans don’t realize just how good Davis Mills was out of high school in the 2017 class.
Mills, a native of Norcross, Ga., committed to Stanford over the likes of Georgia and Alabama and early on, it looked like the wrong choice. He was sitting behind Keller Chryst and KJ Costello as a freshman and when the former transferred to Tennessee in 2018, Mills moved up to the backup role. Unfortunately, he watched as Costello broke out and his dreams of playing in the NFL had to dim just slightly.
Now that Costello has moved on, the former five-star prospect and No. 1 quarterback recruit in the 2017 class is finally getting his opportunity as a full-time starter.
Everyone got a little taste of Mills in 2019 as he led the team in passing with Costello out, throwing for 1,960 yards and 11 touchdowns with just five picks and a 66 percent completion rate in eight games. That’s a heck of a start for a kid starting his first games and not even playing a full season.
The 6-foot-4, 212-pound quarterback has the size, the strong arm and the accuracy to be successful at the next level and all he has to do is prove he’s worth a look in 2020.
Expect Mills to have a breakout season and approach 3,000 yards and 20-plus touchdowns for the Cardinal in 2020 which will be enough to earn some NFL hype.
