SEC Football: Every team’s best newcomer for 2020 season
By Dante Pryor
This spot could have easily been occupied by Wake Forest transfer Jamie Newman. However, one of the places hardest hit by the NFL draft was the offensive line. It does not matter how well Newman acclimates himself to the offense, if they can’t protect him, he won’t play well.
The Bulldogs have no offensive tackle of note next season. Enter Broderick Jones. The Georgia native comes in as the second-rated offensive tackle in the country. He has tremendous upside and could follow in the footsteps of Andrew Thomas as a top five pick in the draft barring disaster.
Doubling as a stand-out basketball player, Jones has quick, nimble, light feet at offensive tackle. He is long and wide which makes it difficult to get around him. He moves well also do to his time spent on the basketball court. Jones has fantastic bend at the knees and is flexible for someone his size.
He is raw, however, but he’s so athletic it will be difficult to keep him off of the football field. The only thing he needs is reps. It might sound cliche, but the sky truly is the limit for Jones. As his technique meets his athleticism, he could be an outstanding player. Expect him to play now.
