3. Theo Day (not a newcomer), QB, Michigan State football

That is not a typo and yes this list is about newcomers, however, Rocky Lombardi is not the answer at quarterback. Theo Day makes the list because the Spartans need a difference-maker at quarterback.

The Spartans need a strong-armed quarterback to take over what has been a fairly bland and stagnant offense. One of the new members of Mel Tucker’s staff is offensive coordinator Jay Johnson needs something special from his quarterback this season.

According to an article written by Stephen Brooks of 247Sports, Johnson is looking for a CEO at quarterback. He’s looking for someone to “get the 10 around them to play at another level.” He’s going to need that this season.

Day has the skill set to elevate the other skill position players around him; he’ll have to as well. The Michigan-native is going to be throwing to largely unproven, untested receivers this year.

Day might not be new to the program, but he could be new to the field this season.
