The Vols will open the 2020 campaign by playing host to the Charlotte 49ers of Conference USA. It will be a rematch of a 2018 matchup in Knoxville, where the Vols narrowly came out with the victory winning by a score of 14-3.

Last season, Charlotte put together their best regular season since joining the FBS in 2015 by going 7-5 and earning a trip to their first-ever bowl game where they were defeated by Buffalo in the Bahamas Bowl.

While Charlotte again figures to be a Conference USA contender, the Vols have more than enough talent and newfound experience to prevent a Week 1 debacle like last season.

Final Score: Tennessee 31, Charlotte 14 (1-0)

Norman (Okla.). Oklahoma Sooners. Sept. 12. player. 815. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 2

The Vols will be challenged very early in 2020 when they travel to Norman for a Week 2 battle with the five-time defending Big 12 champion Oklahoma Sooners.

Oklahoma and Tennessee last met in 2015 when Baker Mayfield led a 17-point comeback to lead the Sooners to a win in Knoxville. Before that, the two teams met in Norman in 2014, where the Sooners rolled to a 34-10 win.

Tennessee figures to put up a fight this time around, but asking them to beat Oklahoma in Norman just two weeks into the new season is far too much to ask.

Final Score: Oklahoma 45, Tennessee 31 (1-1)
