Oregon vs. Clemson

Another first-time ever matchup, this game likely wouldn’t make the cut if it wasn’t for the Ducks’ successes of the 2000s.

Oregon has enjoyed 11 10-win seasons since the turn of the century — 11 more than the zero they had in the 82 seasons prior.

A lot of this success came under the Chip Kelly offenses that in a lot of ways revolutionized college football. Kelly’s Ducks lit up almost every team they played. Explosive offenses that could score on any play, electric special teams and some studs on defense. The flashy uniforms didn’t hurt matters either. Oregon was the college football darling of the early part of the 2010s, much like Clemson is now.

The biggest difference? Oregon doesn’t have a single national championship to show for it.

We’re at the point now where year in and year out, both teams are at worst case contenders for conference titles, save for Oregon’s 2016.

A non-conference game between the two may not be on the schedule yet, but it would not be a shock to see the two programs meet for the first time come playoff time.
