Coastal Carolina Football: Can Chanticleers make it to postseason in 2020?
By Dante Pryor
Coastal Carolina football finished 5-7 last season. Can the Chanticleers find one or two more wins and go to a bowl game for the first time?
For those of you scoring at home, a Chanticleer is a rooster. Not just any rooster either, he’s from English folklore. He’s most known as the rooster from the “Nun’s Tale” from The Canterbury Tales. For anyone thinking the Chanticleer is not tough, read the book.
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers could use a bit of storybook magic to take the next step as a program and get to a bowl game. This would be quite an accomplishment. They have only been playing football since 2003 and playing in FBS since 2017.
Before joining the Sun Belt in 2013, the Chanticleers played at the FCS level in the Big South Conference garnering six playoff appearances and seven conference titles.
This might be their year to reach the postseason. They return a lot of starting experience on both offense and defense. Head coach Jamey Chadwell and his staff have to be excited about the experience returning this season.
They don’t play the prettiest style of football in Conway, S.C., but they get the job done. Coastal is a grind it out offense and a lunch-pail defense. This season is a test of whether they can win against some of the Sun Belt’s better teams.
Here is a preview of the Chanticleers’ offense, defense and a final prediction.
