Inexperienced defense will create challenges

Will Choloh will return as the leader of the defensive line for the Trojans for the 2020 season. This was a group who was very young last season but has had a year to improve their game and learn from their mistakes.

As a result from this, this unit should be more experienced and confident which should ultimately bring better numbers from the Trojans defensive line this season.

One of most experienced linebackers for the Trojans this season is Carlton Martial Jr. He should be a key leader of this unit after a stellar performance in 2019 where he had 126 tackles and had three interceptions.

He is an essential key player for the linebacking core for the Trojans and should be a huge contributing factor to shape his unit around him and make them better.

Despite the defensive line and the linebacking units having some experience and having a productive year last season, the secondary for the Trojans was their achilles heel in 2019 and could potentially have more of the same issues in 2020.

Troy will count on players like Dell Pettus and TJ Harris who are the two most experienced players in their secondary. This is a young group of players who do not have very much experience under their belts and can expect to have a lot of growing pains throughout the season.
