Arizona Football: Kevin Sumlin enters do-or-die 2020 season
How will Arizona football fare in 2020?
On July 12, it was announced the Pac-12 would cancel all of their non-conference games for the 2020 fall sports season, including football amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thus, as of now, Arizona only has nine scheduled games and it is unclear whether or not there will be added conference contests.
Here are projections for all of the Wildcats scheduled matchups for the 2020 season.
- Sept. 12: vs. Stanford (L)
- Oct. 3: at UCLA (L)
- Oct. 10: vs. Colorado (W)
- Oct. 17: vs. USC (L)
- Oct. 23: at Washington (L)
- Oct. 31: vs. Oregon (L)
- Nov. 7: at Utah (L)
- Nov. 21: at Oregon State (W)
- Nov. 28: vs. Arizona State (L)
Projection: 2-7
With non-conference play canceled, Arizona will no longer face off with Hawaii, Texas Tech, or Portland State. The Wildcats fell to Hawaii a year ago but likely would’ve won the 2020 matchup at home, would’ve defeated Portland State and Texas Tech would’ve been a toss-up.
Thus, instead of a four or five-win season, Arizona is likely looking at just two wins. They’ll have chances to pull off upsets over teams such as UCLA, Stanford and even USC at home but likely will fall in all three of those contests.
The most winnable contests seem to be Oregon State and Colorado, which would put the Wildcats at just 2-7 and likely smell the end of the Kevin Sumlin era.
