The time could be now for Dan Mullen and Florida football to reclaim the SEC East and make a push for the College Football Playoff.

Florida football fans have been watching their hated rival Georgia dominate the SEC East the last three seasons and wondering when they will be able to knock off the Dawgs and get back to the SEC title game.

This could be the year that they have waited so patiently on and it’s not hard to see why.

Florida returns the most experienced quarterback in the SEC in Kyle Trask and Dan Mullen has been recruiting at a pretty good level to replace some of the talent that they lost to the NFL this past season. After back to back double-digit win seasons, the logical next step for Florida is winning the East and pushing to make the College Football Playoff.

While I don’t that some of the hype surrounding Florida is misplaced necessarily, I think there are more holes on this team than most would care to admit. While Trask is back under center and Kyle Pitts is an All-American candidate at tight end, Florida is missing their leading rusher, top four receivers and their offensive line is merely average in my opinion.

On defense the Gators are losing their top pass rushers, top linebacker and top corner. While Mullen has recruited well, it is not on the level of Georgia or other top programs where they can plug and play five-star talent at most places. That does not mean Florida won’t be a very good team, but I think it could be a year early with the playoff hype.

Here’s how Florida’s 2020 season will play out.
