Offense may have Group of Five’s best “Big 3”

Of the 66 percent of the from the Cajuns’ returning production, the most useful pieces are in the backfield. The combination of quarterback Levi Lewis, Elijah Mitchell and Troy Ragas might be the best trio in the entire Group of Five.

Ragas and Mitchell combined for over 2,000 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns while adding 45 combined receptions for over 500 yards and five receiving touchdowns. Lewis — more of a pocket passer — added three touchdowns himself.

In his first year as the starting quarterback, Lewis threw for over 3,000 yards and 26 touchdowns. Many of those receptions and yards went to All-Sun Belt second team wide receiver Ja’Marcus Bradley. Though his career at Louisiana is over, there are more than capable receivers ready to fill in the gap.

Jalen Williams and Peter LeBlanc return from last season’s squad while JUCO transfer Jamal Bell will press the other receivers for snaps and add depth. What makes this offense dangerous is the offensive line. They return three starters, and their new starters have been part of the program for at least two years.

This offense looks to be better than it was a year ago. If Lewis and the backfield combo can stay healthy, there is a high ceiling for the offense.
