1. Uncertainty in the backfield

Florida’s offense has some intriguing pieces like Trevon Grimes, Kadarius Toney, Kyle Pitts and Kyle Trask, but the biggest question marks come from the backfield.

The Gators are losing last year’s leading rusher Lamical Perine who accumulated 28 total touchdowns over the past three seasons and had a breakout Orange Bowl performance to end his career with 181 total yards and three scores.

Perine’s exit opens the door for some younger guys to step up and take the reins, but that’s where the uncertainty comes from. Dameon Pierce is the favorite to earn the start, but relying on a junior who rushed for 305 yards and four touchdowns last year isn’t exactly a comforting feeling.

Malik Davis can add to the backfield as well as Iverson Clement and Miami transfer and former five-star prospect Lorenzo Lingard, but there’s close to zero experience.

The backfield will need to prove itself and with two new starting guards on the offensive line, it’s possible that it will struggle. That will leave too much pressure on Trask’s shoulders and that’s not an ideal scenario.

This offense could take a step back or become one-dimensional.
