UCF Football: 3 takeaways from blowout win over East Carolina
1. Dillon Gabriel is a serious Heisman contender
Dillon Gabriel might do something that never happens; he might become a serious Heisman Trophy contender from the Group of Five.
We see guys like this climb up the Heisman ranks and join the conversation almost every year, but they fizzle out by the end of the year or the lack of elite competition eliminates them. Something just feels different about Gabriel — maybe it’s the fact that he dominated a Power Five team a week ago.
After putting up video game-like numbers against Georgia Tech last week, he passed for 408 yards and four touchdowns on 32-of-47 completions. He didn’t do anything on the ground, but he showed just why he’s elite and his arm is special.
Watching this kid engineer drives with ease is truly something and his leadership and talent could get him to New York.
So far on the season, he has 825 yards and eight touchdowns with one pick and a completion rate over 65 percent. This kid is fun to watch.
