Florida Football: 3 overreactions from season-opening win over Ole Miss
Florida football was hoping to start the season strong on Saturday and the Gators put up 51 points in a win over Ole Miss. Let’s overreact.
What an opener it was for Kyle Trask and the Florida offense but the defense had a different experience. The Gators finished with over 650 yards of total offense in a 51-35 win, but the defense surrendered over 600 yards.
This isn’t something you often see with the Gators who have been known for developing elite defensive backs. The defense is known for being stingy, but Ole Miss put up numbers.
Matt Corral did almost whatever he wanted to do against the Gators on Saturday and that’s something that needs to be figured out if Florida wants to win the SEC East over a team like Georgia in 2020.
Let’s completely overreact to Saturday’s win over Ole Miss.
3. Defense is the worst it’s been in years
As previously stated, this was a bloodbath for the Gators’ defense. Not only did Matt Corral pass for almost 400 yards and three touchdowns against what is usually a stingy secondary, but the Rebels accounted for over 600 total yards.
Corral picked up almost 450 total yards after rushing for 50 and Jerrion Ealy put up 79 yards on the ground as the Rebels rushed for 170 and two touchdowns on 40 carries.
The defense couldn’t figure out how to stop Elijah Moore and Kenny Yeboah and that could be a major reason for concern moving forward and this very well might end up being the worst Florida defense in years. But it’s far too early to tell and Ole Miss’ offense is incredibly underrated.
Lane Kiffin called one heck of a game.
