Will Florida football’s win-loss record affect Kyle Trask’s Heisman hopes?
By John Scimeca
Considering the first two weeks of SEC action and outstanding quarterback play, does Florida’s Kyle Trask need his team to win big to win the 2020 Heisman?
The SEC has seen its fair share of standout quarterbacks in just the first two weeks of play for the 2020 season.
Mac Jones has put up big numbers for Alabama, KJ Costello engineered a remarkable Mississippi State win on the road against LSU, and Stetson Bennett has stepped up on the big stage for Georgia. Even Tennessee’s Jarrett Guarantano has the Vols sitting strong at 2-0.
It’s early and the Gators have yet to face the meat of their 2020 schedule, but let’s face it: Kyle Trask is a legitimate Heisman candidate. Does he need Florida to have an undefeated run or an SEC crown to win the 2020 Heisman Trophy?
Trask’s numbers as the Gators’ signal-caller are worthy of New York City visit (unless it’s virtual this year, of course). He’s completed 71 percent of his passes while throwing for 684 yards, 10 touchdowns, and only one interception.
Perhaps just as importantly, Florida beat its first two opponents, Ole Miss and South Carolina, by double digits. The Gators average 44.5 points per game and will face Texas A&M (1-1) on the road this weekend.
Though it sounds cliché, here are Joe Burrow’s stats after the first two games of 2019: 649 passing yards, nine touchdowns, one interception, and 81.8 percent completion rate in LSU wins over Georgia Southern and Texas.
