College Football Top 25 Power Rankings, Week 7: Clemson sews up No. 1 spot
Oregon is clearly the Pac-12’s top option to make the playoff and the Ducks will need to win out when their season starts in November to have a shot. One loss in the Pac-12 this season and they’re more than likely eliminated from contention.
The only true contender from the Big 12 left that still has an unbeaten record, Oklahoma State has a trio that could be dominant in conference play in Spencer Sanders (when healthy), Tylan Wallace and Chuba Hubbard. If the Cowboys’ offense continues to improve and get healthy, this team is going to run the table and topple previous favorite Oklahoma.
Kyle Trask put on another show against Texas A&M and Kyle Pitts caught yet another touchdown pass, but it wasn’t enough as the Gators’ defense let the team down in the upset loss. Florida has one of the best offenses in the country but that defense is starting to resemble Oklahoma’s from years past. Can’t outscore everyone. I still think the Gators are deserving of a top-10 spot.
BYU would have moved up a little more if it had beaten UTSA more handily, but the Cougars struggled to shut the door on the Roadrunners. We are still living in Zach Wilson’s world and as long as he’s the quarterback, I don’t see the Cougars stumbling this season to inferior foes.
North Carolina made its first statement of the season in Week 6 and that was enough to earn a bump in the rankings. They beat a ranked Virginia Tech team handily and Sam Howell looked solid. Mack Brown’s team is looking like a serious threat to Clemson in the ACC but there’s still much more to prove.
