2. BYU is a virtual lock to make a New Year’s Six bowl

For the first time since 2008, BYU is 5-0. The Cougars look like one of the best non-Power Five teams in the country and, honestly, they might be the favorites from that group of teams to make a New Year’s Six bowl.

The Cougars just had their toughest battle of the season yet, hitting the road to take on a 1-0 Houston squad led by Clayton Tune and Dana Holgorsen. And they won by 17.

Sure, the final score was a bit deceiving because Houston was leading 26-21 in the third quarter but any time a team scores 22 straight points to end a game on the road with a double-digit win, it’s impressive. This team is firing on all cylinders and found a way to win on a night when the defense didn’t exactly show up to play.

BYU has one of the best quarterbacks in the country as well as a defense that’s good, but not great, and a head coach who the players love.

This team doesn’t look like it’s going to lose any time soon. The next tough game is on Nov. 6 at Boise State and the Cougars may have the advantage due to a rusty Broncos team.

BYU will be New Year’s Six bound.
