SEC Football Power Rankings, Week 8: Arkansas, South Carolina rising

Vanderbilt doesn’t move out of the bottom spot after not playing in Week 7. They are barely able to field enough scholarship players due to COVID-19, opt-outs and injuries. The offense has been barely able to put points on the board and the defense hasn’t done much of anything since stopping the Aggie offense in Week 1. I’m sorry Vanderbilt fans, unless a miracle happens, you are kind of stuck here.
LSU did not play this week either, but thanks to everyone around them moving, these Tigers are down one spot to the No. 13 spot in the conference. After winning a national championship in 2019, the defense is simply unable to get off the field without giving up points and now there are rumblings that Myles Brennan may be out for an extended period of time with a hip injury, so things don’t seem to be getting better for the Tigers anytime soon.
The Missouri Tigers also didn’t play last week after Vanderbilt couldn’t field enough players to form a full team, but they are down a spot thanks to those around them falling and jumping around. They are still coming off an upset of LSU, but how big is that really when the LSU Tigers are sitting at 1-2 and are struggling to play any kind of defense? We will see more of the Missouri Tigers this weekend against an opportunistic Kentucky defense and will see how Connor Bazelak fairs in that environment.
Mississippi State is down one spot after falling to Texas A&M at home on Saturday. Despite owning the Aggies at home in recent years, this one was all Aggies outside of a fluke defensive touchdown and one touchdown by Will Rogers. It is time for Mississippi State to consider changing quarterbacks, because KJ Costello just isn’t getting it done for them as it stands right now.
