1. This is not a playoff team yet

Honestly, this isn’t a playoff team yet and anyone who has watched the Irish this season would tend to agree. Put bias aside for a second, if you watched Notre Dame outside of a dominant win over Pitt, would you have said the Irish deserve to be in the top four nationally? Probably not, right?

Let’s face it, the Irish have talent and they could very well be a playoff team by the end of the season. We will know a ton more about them this weekend against Clemson, but it’s still too early to say they’re good enough.

Ian Book has been average, the run game has carried the offense and that side of the ball has been a massive letdown. Defensively, there’s more reason for optimism. That line is scary and the defensive backfield has been solid. But that offense might just hold this team back.

When the offense and defense match up in terms of effectiveness, this team will be a serious playoff threat. Right now? I just don’t see it yet.
