Coastal Carolina football hosts South Alabama on the Teal Turf on Saturday, looking to stay Independent. Will the Chanticleers come out on top?

The surprise of the Sun Belt has undoubtedly been Coastal Carolina, now ranked 15th in the AP poll and unbeaten through six games.

On the back of a freshman phenom Grayson McCall and a swarming defense the Chanticleers have positioned themselves as the Sun Belt team with the best shot at the New Year’s Six.

That’s looking ahead, though. For now, they’ll have to deal with a solid South Alabama team who is excited to take their shot at the Sun Belt front runner.

Here’s what to look out for when the Jaguars head to Conway.

3. Coastal Carolina will have more than 10 tackles for loss

South Alabama has struggled on the offensive line this season. They’re giving up 8.2 tackles for loss per game. Before the MAC and Pac-12 get back in action, that’s 89th in the country.

That’s a major issue no matter who you’re playing, but it only gets worse when you consider that Coastal Carolina is snagging 6.5 tackles for loss per game.

The Chanticleers should be living in South Alabama’s backfield, which will throw off the entire rhythm of the Jaguars offense. They’ll be forced to throw more than they like, and will be forced to make decisions quicker than they would like to. This will create mistakes and turnovers that should sway the game in Coastal Carolina’s favor.
