Arizona State Football: 3 takeaways from heartbreaking loss at USC
1. Jayden Daniels doesn’t have chemistry with his receivers yet
Jayden Daniels is one of the best young quarterbacks in the country. There’s no doubt about that. But one thing was clear on Saturday afternoon: he doesn’t quite have that chemistry with his young receivers yet.
Frank Darby is the most veteran returning receiver and he had just one reception for two yards and he left the game early with an injury. That seemed to kill Daniels’ confidence.
Daniels had to rely on some younger guys but it was clear that he didn’t have a solid relationship developed with them yet. In a weird offseason where he didn’t have much time to develop chemistry with the new guys, it’s clear that it hurt this offense.
The sophomore quarterback passed for just 134 yards and a touchdown on 11-of-23 completions and 70 of those yards came from running back Rachaad White on three receptions with a touchdown.
Daniels needs to figure out what’s missing between him and his receivers because he should never be running for nearly as many yards as he has passing.
