1. Special teams were the difference

You can give credit to the offense with Hank Bachmeier back and giving the passing attack a pulse or Andrew Van Buren for capitalizing on some key touchdown runs near the goal-line as well as the defense for coming up big when it mattered and the third-down offense, but you have to praise the special teams for being the difference on Thursday night.

Boise State wanted to force more turnovers against Colorado State and while the Broncos only forced one turnover, the special teams made up for the rest and one-upped the defense.

In fact, the first score of the game came on a blocked punt that was returned for a touchdown just 52 seconds into the game. That set the tone for the Broncos and Rams.

Later in the quarter, Boise State returned a blocked chip-shot field goal attempt by Colorado State 91 yards for a touchdown to make it 21-0.

And then once again at the end of the first half, Boise State blocked another punt and returned it for a touchdown, going into halftime with a 42-7 lead. That was the difference.

Sure, the Broncos fumbled a punt and a kick return, but the positives far outweighed the negatives and this is proof that special teams can sometimes make all the difference.
