Coastal Carolina Football: 3 takeaways from win over App State
By Dante Pryor
2. The Sun Belt goes through Conway now
Today’s win puts the Chanticleers in the driver’s seat to play for the Sun Belt Championship. App State little hope of getting to the title game. The Mountaineers would need the Chants to lose twice since Coastal has a make up game against Troy.
What is most impressive about Coastal is the poise they played with today. Appalachian State had a game plan to shorten the game and take advantage of their size upfront. The Mountaineers running back Camerun Peoples had a great game, but when App State needed to put it in the air, they struggled.
In the second half, the Chanticleer defense — nicknamed the black swarm — got after quarterback Zac Smith sacking him four times in this game. The pressure in the second half forced two key interceptions late in the game. The fourth quarter interceptions caused a 14-point swing that won the game for Coastal.
The question for Coastal is where will they be ranked when the playoff rankings come out.? Will they be near the top ten? If they run the table, where do they end up in the post season? time will answer those questions.
