Florida football looked to avoid a trap game against Tennessee in Week 14 and the Gators did just that en route to a 12-point road win.

Once again, Kyle Trask went off as Florida avoided a trap game at Tennessee, beating the Volunteers by 12 points in Knoxville on Saturday afternoon.

Florida looked like a focused team ready to make a playoff push in the final weeks of the season as the Gators are going to represent the SEC East in the conference championship game. Winning out will put this team in the playoff but even a loss to Alabama in the SEC title game could be enough.

Did Florida do enough on Saturday to impress the playoff committee, however?

What did we learn from the Gators’ win over Tennessee?

3. Run game essentially abandoned

Usually, Florida has a running back reach 50 yards each game and it’s usually Dameon Pierce, but against Tennessee, the Gators completely abandoned the run game.

Was it because it wasn’t working? Probably, but the sample size was also incredibly small. No rusher had over five carries and Pierce was the only one to reach that mark, rushing five times for just five yards. Nay’Quan Wright had four rushes for two yards and Malik Davis had two carries for zero yards.

The leading rusher for the Gators on Saturday was receiver Jacob Copeland who had one carry for 17 yards as Dan Mullen was hoping that would spark the run game but it just didn’t happen.

Florida doesn’t really need a run game, but it’d be nice to take pressure off Kyle Trask.
