The playoff contenders impressed on the road

Five of the top six teams in the College Football Playoff rankings were on the road this week as Alabama football was at LSU, Ohio State was at Michigan State, Clemson football was at Virginia Tech, Florida was at Tennessee and Texas A&M was at Auburn.

Florida and A&M had competitive games, especially the Aggies who had to rally late to keep their playoff hopes alive, but everyone else cruised to a win.

Alabama paid back LSU in a big way for last season and put up 55 points in Baton Rouge. Simply put, the Tide look like the best team in America right now and the offense is a juggernaut.

Clemson and Notre Dame both held serve in their final contests before meeting in the ACC title game in a couple of weeks and Ohio State thrashed a Michigan State team that was fresh off an upset win over previously 8th-ranked Northwestern.

The Aggies and Gators might be a tier below the others, but Florida has been solid all year and like the other teams in the top four, they control their destiny as a win over Bama would punch their ticket to the playoff.
