2. Michigan State Spartans crushed by rivals #4 Ohio State 52-12

Like LSU, the Michigan State Spartans had a lot of hope before the 2020 College Football season, but their hope has fallen off hard. This past Saturday, the Spartans continued their tough 2020 season by hosting the undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes. The Spartans could not find an answer as they were dominated by their rivals with a 52-12 score.

Ohio State had no problem finding a rhythm against this inefficient Spartans defense. The Spartans allowed 521 total yards of offense including 322 from the rushing game from the Buckeyes. Michigan State’s defense allowed two players of Ohio State to account for two 100-yard rushing performances.

Running back Trey Sermon rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. Quarterback Justin Fields rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Fields also threw for 199 yards, two touchdowns, and a QBR of 95.7 on 17 completions (out of 24 passing attempts.

The Buckeyes’ defense was efficient in holding the Spartans to an insignificant performance of 261 total yards accounted for. Michigan State was held to 81 rushing yards on 28 carries for an average of 2.9 yards per rush. It doesn’t help that the Spartans encountered four turnovers with two fumbles and two interceptions. The offensive line of Michigan State allowed the Buckeyes defense to account for three sacks and six tackles for loss.

The Michigan State Spartans (2-4) will finish their disastrous 2020 season at the Penn State Nittany Lions (2-5) in one of the most disappointing matchups that was hyped during the preseason.
