Michigan Football: 3 signees who’ll have instant impact
Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards has been Michigan’s top recruiting target going back over a year. He’s the No. 2 back in the state of Michigan and 44th overall and he was a can’t-miss kid.
Ohio State made a push at one time, before settling on another five-star running back, but Georgia wanted Edwards and so did Oklahoma and in the end, he stayed home with the Wolverines.
When he made his announcement halfway through early signing day, you could feel the jolt of momentum surge through the program. Landing McCarthy’s signature was huge, but everyone knew he was coming — with Edwards it was uncertain.
But now that he’s a Wolverine, he’s someone you can absolutely expect to make an immediate impact. Michigan has a crowded running back room with Hassan Haskins, Zach Charbonnet and Blake Corum, but Edwards is a different cat and I think he’s got a legitimate chance of being the Wolverines first early draft pick at the position since Chris Perry went in the first round (2004).
Not only is he an exceptional runner, but his receiving skills are also off the charts and he’s the kind of player Michigan football hasn’t had in a long time.
