Army Football: Liberty Bowl gets it right by inviting Black Knights
At least one wrong was righted in the bowl system as Army football got a berth to the Liberty Bowl Monday. Also looking back at the Myrtle Beach Bowl.
There were a lot of messed up things in the bowl selection process this year and obviously, some of that had to do with the pandemic. But one of the worst things, other than Notre Dame getting into the playoff, was Army football getting left out a bowl game after its bowl was canceled.
Army football was supposed to play in the Independence Bowl, but as with many other bowl games, it was called off leaving the 9-2 Black Knights without a bowl.
Playing in a minor bowl game doesn’t mean a lot to some programs, but for these Army football players, it would sure mean a lot and thankfully, the Black Knights are going to get that chance according to Stadium’s Brett McMurphy.
Although, the way they got it isn’t something to celebrate.
Tennessee had to pull out of the Liberty Bowl due to issues with positive tests and that opened the door for Army to take its place. The Liberty Bowl made the move and now the Black Knights, after winning the Commander-In-Chief Trophy, will play West Virginia.
Again, hopefully everyone with the Vols is Ok. But it’s good to see the Army football team get rewarded for a memorable season.
App State rolls in Myrtle Beach Bowl
Believe it or not, there was actually a bowl game played today as Appalachian State battled North Texas in the esteemed Myrtle Beach Bowl.
The Mountaineers rolled to a 56-28 win which earned them a nine-win season. Camerun Peoples was the real star of the show as he rushed for 319 yards and five touchdowns in the win, an effort which included a 76-yard run.
Peoples performance is another example of why every bowl game offers some reason to watch and if you are a diehard college football fan, you already know that.
So saddle up, because on Tuesday, we will have two more bowls game, highlighted by UCF taking on BYU in a battle of notable group of five programs. That’s the Boca Raton Bowl.
That game is at 7 PM ET and before that, you can catch Nevada and Tulane at 3:30 ET in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
