The Cajuns were able to close out a close game with their running game

Anytime a team has a running game that can kill a clock, it is a huge advantage. That is exactly what the Ragin Cajuns were able to do this afternoon. When the Roadrunners got back into the game in the second half, the Cajuns were able to retake the lead late in the fourth quarter and keep the lead.

It seemed as if the Roadrunners expended so much defensive energy holding the Cajuns offense, they were gassed by the time they needed one final stop in the fourth quarter. In their defense, the Roadrunners were missing 15-20 members of the team, including head coach Jeff Traylor and members of the team.

The Cajuns had two running backs nearly go for over 100 yards. Senior running back Elijah Mitchell paced Louisiana football with 127 yards on 19 carries; fellow running back Trey Ragas had 98 yards on 14 carries. Ragas was also the runner Louisiana used to close out the game in their four minute drill.

Before the Cajuns kneeled their final two plays, Louisiana did not have a negative run the entire four-minute drill. Trey Ragas had 36 yards in two runs that closed out the game for the Cajuns after their go-ahead score.
